Friends and Shopping

Today I introduced my friend, Miranda to World Market and she jumped on my tradition of outings to the wonderful store every Thursday. This isn't the first trend I have ever started. Right away I had my jewelry purchase for the week decided upon. Miranda, being the most domestic of all my friends, had to look at all the kitchen and cooking goods. She was so impressed that we then had to loop through the whole store two more times and planned meals to make during J-term! In the very near future I will be enjoying pumpkin gnocchi!

Tis the Season

I got my first Christmas present yesterday! One of my girls gave me an ornament that her grandpa engraved on. She often uses my middle name when addressing me, hence two thirds of my moniker was engraved onto the ornament. She wrote a very sweet message on the back of the ornament in a metallic marker. I told her that I would be perfectly content if this was my only Christmas present this year and when I have my own Christmas tree, this ornament will be front and center!

Spark

“In observing our contemporary society I long to be like a river, like the wind, to be like a migrating bird, to be here and there, to eat a baguette, to dance the samba, to climb the Alps, in other words, to go, to go, to go...” Toguo

I found this quote in a document on my computer I had labeled as "Sparks of Interest" at some point during my freshman year at Augie. I like the idea that as content as we may feel at times we can always be searching for our next great adventure.

I plan on having a lot of adventures.

Half a Year

Today marks the 6th-month anniversary of this blog. On the first day I blogged I was sitting on the deck of the Green Bean, my favorite coffee shop in Spearfish, drinking a Blueberry Pomegranate Iced Tea Fruit Blast and listening to Coldplay. I was wearing shorts, a tank top and flip flops. Today I am sitting in my Solberg dorm room looking out to the campus sidewalks dusted with snow while drinking a cup of coffee with cinnamon and honey and listening to U2. I am wearing jeans, a sweater and boots.

It is incredible to think about everything that can happen in six months and I am sure I could babble on and on about all of the amazing-ness that has been the last six months including the adventures I have had, the exciting opportunities that have come my way and the never-ending feeling of love I am blessed to experience from a huge assortment of people. Instead I will present a sort of photo narrative.

Staccato- What's the Point?

When I was in band I always delighted to see staccato notes in the music we were performing. These notes are to the point and don't hide any aspect of what the note is trying to relay.

I love writing this blog, especially on days like this in which I have blocked every other social media distraction from myself. Sometimes I try to figure out what I think is the point, or intention of my blog. Yesterday I commented on the fact that some days I feel like I can change the world and other days I just want to draw mermaids in chalk. Maybe the point is to figure out which of the two days it is...

Or maybe it is... Looking for the loveliness in life and realizing it's not too far away.

I love the fact that I get to figure my life out now in such an important stage of life in my favorite places, Spearfish and Augie.

Food For Thought

So here I sit, not-so-much writing my paper, but I am not doing anything else either thanks to my discovery of an application in which I can block certain websites for a designated amount of time. Hence, I am not able to access Facebook, Twitter, Hulu, or Netflix until 9:30 a.m. CST tomorrow.

Of course, I didn't block my own blog...

This week songs and other tidbits of lyrical knowledge have popped out at me. All of which seem blog-worthy and a credible distraction from my 25-page paper.

Pandora presented me with another gem of a song. "Maybe" by Ingrid Michaelson is very appropriate for my own life as well as basically all of my friends' lives.

This song, "Video" by India Arie, was discovered on Pandora as well and again, all of my best friends should listen to it.

This next quote came from another blog:

"A woman, no matter her weight, is most beautiful where she is different from a man."

Tis oh-so true.

My lovely best friend, Jackie, sent me this quote from an upcoming Zac Efron (her favorite) movie:

"It's destiny, I think. I think that's what you hope that love is... is destiny."

Over the last couple years I have received two cards by the Curly Girl Designs and depending on what kind of day I am having, both are very Sanna-like.

I am fairly certain that given a cape and a nice tiara, I could save the world.

She dreams of mermaids and motorcycles and meeting a man who can dance.

It's true. Some days I know I am fully capable of changing the world and some days I just want to draw mermaids in chalk.
